No one else has been able to do it over the last 2000 years. ” Mahoney also interviewed British Physicist Sir Colin Humphreys, Director of Research at The University of Cambridge and founder of the Cambridge Centre for Gallium Nitride. He further explains, “The first question most people ask is where is Mount Sinai? My first question as a geographer is where was the sea of the Exodus? The book of Exodus documents many of God's miracles from the twelve plagues of Egypt to guiding the Israelites in the desert and parting the waters allowing them to cross on dry land. Director Cecil DeMile was so inspired by this book that he made the movie The Ten Commandments twice! I have fond memories watching the 1956 Charleston Heston version and these movies have also inspired film maker Tim Mahoney to create the Patterns of Evidence series. Sadly, many of these miracles are downplayed or considered mere fairy tales in today’s society. The Red Sea Miracle aims to determine where the parting of the waters occurred and the path that the Israelites took to eventually get to Mount Sinai to receive the Ten Commandments. Before seeing this film, you should watch Patterns of Evidence: Exodus  and Patterns of Evidence: The Moses Controversy  to understand the non-conventional timeline they use for dating these events. Like the previous films, Tim interviews several Egyptologists and scholars on their thoughts on where the Israelites went and where the parting of the waters took place. There are two schools of thought on how epic of a journey this truly was. The Egyptian theory is that there was 50, 000 or less Hebrews and they didn’t travel too far before having shallow water part before them. The Hebrew view is that there were roughly two million Israelites who traveled a great distance for about a month before having a large body of water parted for them. The goal in this two-part movie series is to break down the six-step journey. This film focuses on the first few objectives including determining where the departure point was, the direction they were heading, the size of the desert they crossed, and where the detour was before arriving at the dead end. A remarkable achievement by filmmaker Alla Kovgan, spending seven years to make this classic tribute to the late dancer/choreographer Merce Cunningham.
Working with both archive footage and valuable sound recordings, she conjures up the avant-garde artist through recordings of his work, his philosophy of his art and comments by many close collaborators including notably John Cage and Robert Rauschenberg. Not meant as a biopic, film concentrates on spectacularlhy cinematic (in 3-D) new performances of many of his dances, executed by members of his company, which disbanded in 2011, after Merce's death in 2009.
At a q&a following the screening, Kovgan indicated that Wim Wenders' innovative 2011 3-D dance film about German choreographer Pina Bausch inspired her to take on this formidable project, finally starting shooting in Stuttgart in 2015 with principal photography taking place in 2018.
Her use of 3-D technique is outstanding, resulting in gripping visual images, enhanced by the accompaniment of the original dance scores by John Cage and others. For a novice like me, not overly familiar with Merce's achievements, the movie brings his dance to life and points to how 3-D technology can be used artfully rather than as a gimmick, or its current excuse to permit higher price points for movie admissions to films, both animated and action-oriented, that should play just as well if not better in 2-D on large screens.

• Great to see a film about dancing! A relatively unexplored sub-genre of documentary, and Cunningham was welcome for this alone. It adds to a hole that I suppose Wenders' Pina opened.

 

• On that note, this film should not have been shot in 3d, which added nothing but nausia. We expect the 3d was entirely for the purpose of (a) copying Pina and, relatedly, b) getting funding. But Cunningham's dances are far less spectacular and their presentation here likewise. The 3d only distracts from the movement in all but one Warhol-involved set, especially when edited with 2d archival.

 

• First half entertaining, second boring. The film progresses at a monotonous pace: one thing happens and then another and then another. No real conflict or tension.

Which is a problem. Because there evidently was plenty of this, but only in reality. The movie, on the other hand, brushes past unconvincingly. No one in the film is given space apart from Cunningham - everyone else speaks to convince the audience how great he is. I wanted to hear from one of his female dancers honestly, in long form, of the darkness of Cunningham. This would help to flesh out his character, give us something to chew on, and organise the film into a narrative. As is, we grew progressively distrusting and disengaged with the Greatest Hits/ Victory Lap tone, before the film ends suddenly with the news that all his dancers left.

• Ultimately we were left unconvinced that Cunningham (the dancer) was all that interesting. Fashionable certainly, he's attached to the right people, and I'm sure it would be great to be dancing as him, but the just-over-half-full prime-time-at-the-festival cinema was an endless circuit of yawns.

 

• Nevertheless we feel cultured now.

I want Portrait of A Lady on Fire 2. Sarsıcıydı. This movie reminded me of the basic principles of cinema, of what differentiates it from mere entertainment and makes it art.
It makes everything simple and immensely dense at once. What it does best - the beautiful landscape shots, the sensible dialogue, the nuance with every sigh, every whisper - it seems to do effortlessly. It often doesn't look rehearsed (I think Céline Sciamma even mentioned that she wanted the dialogue to seem improvised) it's filled with silences during which the characters look at each other, they truly look, as if the study prior to painting transcends into reality. At one point it becomes unclear whether Marianne is observing Héloïse because she has to or because she wants to. We see it all happen : slowly at first, and then without restraint, in a commotion. Something blooms in the characters' eyes.
There is an emotional movement in the film that is independent from any medium other than the image. There are no soaring strings to help elevate the emotion. It stays raw, and we can't help but live it with the characters as it is. We are never shielded from reality. Instead, we are forced to keep our feet firmly planted as every scene delightfully unfolds right in front of us. Music appears only twice, otherwise the music is the language, the sound of waves, the sound of breaths, the sound of paintbrush against canvas. The long takes are so steady and delicate, you might not even notice them until the cuts takes you by surprise (this shows how seldom they seem to occur. There is a sense of huis clos in the painting sequences, as if the characters cannot escape one another and, as a result, are almost forced into a slow duel of piercing gazes, biting remarks and heavy silence. Their love is left untamed and vainly restrained, and it soon begins to burn and crackle, and when it finally bursts out, it leaves no one unscathed : the result is a beautiful yet powerful phenomenon, like the waves that roll and crash around the island.
Céline pours such depth in everything she creates and there is so much to be said about this film. I hope she gets rightfully recognized for all she gives to the art of film.

Kenny was named the NCAA Basketball Tournament Most Outstanding Player for his efforts. Kenny is the only player in the history of Wyoming Cowboys basketball to be selected as an All-American two times, in 1943, and 1946. From 1946 to 1951, Kenny played professionally in the BAA and NBA as a member of the Cleveland Rebels, Chicago Stags, Philadelphia Warriors, Providence Steamrollers, Denver Nuggets, Boston Celtics, and Baltimore Bullets. He scored 3, 480 points in his professional career. Kenny had a distinguished professional career. [5] Plot Ajay Krishna ( Mahesh Babu) is a army major and a new person named Ajay ( Satya Dev) joins his regiment. One day during shootout, Ajay gets severely injured. Prakash ( Murali Sharma) their brigadier sends Ajay Krishna and his colleague Prasad ( Rajendra Prasad) to inform this news also to make sure that Ajay's sister's marriage should not get disturbed. On the way to Kurnool, in their train, they come across Samskruthi ( Rashmika Mandanna) who is to marry a below-average guy and she decides to run away and marry a good guy. She sees Ajay and falls in love with him. She tries her best to propose him leading to hilarious scenes. Once they reach Kurnool, Bharathi ( Vijayashanti) who is Ajay's mother and her family is running away from MLA Nagendra Reddy ( Prakash Raj) a corrupt minister. At that time, they get caught by his men and threatens to kill them. Then Ajay comes to their rescue and beats them very badly warns that he will deal with Nagendra in the same way. Nagendra's main henchman, Arvind Sivashankar ( Ajay) narrates this to Nagendra and tells him that he has seen Alluri Seetharama Raju ( Krishna) in his guts. Bharathi tells that her friend's son got killed by Nagendra and covered it as suicide but Bharathi raised suspicion and lodged a complaint on Nagendra. Nagendra warns her to withdraw the complaint else he will see her end but she did not get scared of his warning. Soon, her daughter's marriage gets called off and she gets suspended from the college on the allegation of leaking the question paper. Ajay then goes to Nagendra's home and warns him that he will change him as a responsible citizen by making him surrendered after fetching all the evidences. Ajay then understands that Nagendra has been involved in a scam through Ramakrishna ( Rajeev) a government officer and Bharathi's brother was a bank officer. Ramakrishna tried to uncover the scam with his help and other girl. At the same time, Ajay will again fix Bharathi's daughter's marriage with the same people. After marriage, he comes to know that Ajay is dead and Ajay Krishna informs the same. After performing his last rites, Ajay and Prasad leave to railway station for going back to Kashmir. Samskruthi comes and proposes him and initially, he does not accept her but later he accepts her. Nagendra, too goes to railway station for asking him why he spared him so. Ajay answers that he will try to use the sympathy to come out of the jail and resumes his corrupt activities. Instead of getting him jailed, he tells Nagendra that he is appointed to the Indian Army. Suryudivo Chandrudivo and Sarileru Neekevvaru are the numbers that fit the narrative and comes at apt time. His background score however works and gets the job done without overpowering the narrative. Rathnavelu's cinematography too works but is unfortunately overshadowed by subpar VFX shots. Story: Ajay Krishna (Mahesh Babu) is an orphan and a soldier serving at Kashmir. Professor Bharathi (Vijayashanthi) is a righteous professor and single mother of three, with one son already lost during service. How Ajay steps up when shes in trouble forms the crux of the story. Review: With Sarileru Neekevvaru, Anil Ravipudi brings back the old Mahesh Babu, someone who played cocky characters that fought, danced, saved the day and delivered speeches seeped in morality. Theres enough drama, emotion and most importantly, looming danger in the film (until Mahesh Babu saves the day) to fuel the wafer-thin story, but Anil is so caught up in weaving two mismatched story-lines together that he forgets to keep the repetitiveness in check. He banks on you to suspend disbelief for the most part and given as how the film doesnt take itself too seriously in the first place, it might work for some. Ajay Krishna (Mahesh Babu) is the true-blue soldier posted at Kashmir who will disable bombs without safety suit on and walk into operations without a helmet on his head – thats how you know he likes to live life on the edge and is the hero because he has nothing to lose. Professor Bharati (Vijayashanthi) is a patriotic woman and a single mother who has lost her eldest child when he was serving in the army and is yet ready to send her second son (Satya Dev) to serve too. She also has a biological daughter apart from an adopted one and is someone who does not shy away from taking tough decisions to ensure the good emerge victorious. Then theres Kurnool MLA Nagendra (Prakash Raj) whos the epitome of evil because thats what Prakash Raj does best. In a tale completely unrelated to this, theres Samksruti (Rashmika Mandanna) her supportive mother (Sangeeta) and tired father (Rao Ramesh. Her favourite pastime happens to be to propose marriage to anyone she sees just so she doesnt marry the man her father chose for her. So its only natural that when she sees Ajay, she latches on to him like a leech and refuses to let go, consent and choice be damned. But its all fun and games and definitely shown in lighter vein till a fake rape scene is staged and of course, shes also wrestled into the other half of the story by force. The good part about Sarileru Neekevvaru is that it never takes itself too seriously. Whats also good is that despite the paper-thin story Anil builds on, he does not veer in a direction you would expect the story to take. The way Ajays character is built, he seems to like to throw a few punches, deliver a speech and crack a joke or two to lighten the mood (in that sequence. The character is completely reminiscent of his roles from the early 2000s and is a trope that will work with fans. So just when you realise something completely implausible has happened on-screen, you are reminded that this is a commercial entertainer. The much-hyped scenes in the train drag on thanks to some of the jokes not landing. Also, what doesnt work is that Anil seems to want to hammer the message home instead of letting his audience think. The jokes get repetitive, so do scenes, the catch lines and all that talk of soldiers serving at the border and patriotism, greatness of Alluri Seetharama Raju are repeated so much, you just wish there was a way to tell the director you get it! The jokes too about Rao Rameshs family being crazy, you dont have to tell us so many times, we know! Not to mention that climax that veers between idealism and comedy, unsure of which side to take. Phew! The less said about it the better. Also, actor Krishna sure is there in the film, just not in the way youd think. Mahesh Babu does a good job of playing a man who will serve the country, crack jokes and protect. Its been long since he got a chance to act in a film like this and he grabs the opportunity with both hands, giving it his all. Rashmika Mandanna is there. She woos, gets hyper, dances, has a catch-line, all for the male lead, but why she exists in this tale, other than to fawn over him is a mystery. Vijayashanthi gets a solid role, and the way shes set up you expect so much more from her character. But when even her role is reduced to mouthing one-liners praising the hero, theres only so much one can do. She too gives it her all though, especially in an emotional scene, so do Prakash Raj and Ajay in roles they can play in their sleep. DSPs music for the film is okay, with Daang Daang opening the film on an unexpected note but He Is So Cute and Mind Block (which is super-fun to watch) being horribly misplaced and breaking the flow of things. Suryudivo Chandrudivo and Sarileru Neekevvaru are the numbers that fit the narrative and comes at apt time. His background score however works and gets the job done without overpowering the narrative. Rathnavelus cinematography too works but is unfortunately overshadowed by subpar VFX shots. The action by Ram-Lakshman is engaging. Sarileru Neekevvaru definitely has its moments but Anil Ravipudis bloated narrative that tries too hard, not to mention do everything at once without a proper structure in place proves to be a major drawback. This ones worth watching for Mahesh Babu and Vijayashanthi, especially if you miss watching them in top form. Meeku ardham avtonda.
