BEIRUT — ​As fierce fighting and bombardments continue across Syria since a fragile pause in hostilities shattered, a resolution has arguably never been further off. And in neighboring Lebanon, the Syrian refugee issue is becoming more and more a source of multiple tensions between communities, politicians and countries. Clearly, frustrations are growing. Last week, some Lebanese ministers and politicians called for repatriation of Syrian refugees. While the proposal is being heavily criticized and shows little chance of succeeding, it reflects increasing vexation over the presence in Lebanon of an estimated 1. 5 million Syrian refugees. Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil drew early fire for saying Sept. 17 that Syrians and Palestinians who marry Lebanese women should not be conferred Lebanese nationality and adding that Syrians are “threatening our Lebanon. " Then-Labor Minister Sejaan Azzi announced a controversial plan to ship refugees back to Syria over a two-year period starting in January. Speaking at a Sept. 19 press conference, Azzi said his plan would place refugees into one of four groups — pro-President Bashar al-Assad, anti-Assad, neutral and “migrant” — before returning them to a “relatively safe space” back in Syria. “There are safe zones, ” Azzi claimed, “just no political decision or will to maintain the cease-fire. ” Syrians classed as “migrants, ” estimated at around 250, 000 people, would be the first to go, Azzi said, with a total of 1. 2 million Syrians targeted for repatriation under the proposals. The same day, Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam offered up a similar plan at the United Nations Summit on Refugees and Migrants in New York, saying the “huge and sudden influx of refugees” beginning in 2011 now poses “dangerous risks to our stability, security, economy and public services. ” Salam suggested a system allowing for the “safe return” of Syrians, but later clarified that refugees would not be “forcibly deported. ” According to Azzi’s repatriation plan, Syrians with legal residency in Lebanon would not be targeted for return. But there’s a catch. Based on estimates from Human Rights Watch, some 70% of Syrians do not have residency, often because the $200 per-person renewal fees are beyond reach for a diaspora increasingly defined by poverty. UN High Commissioner on Refugees (UNHCR) spokesperson Lisa Abu Khaled said the agency closely watches "developments in countries of origin to see when such returns would be possible — as this is the solution refugees dream of. " However, "current conditions in Syria are not appropriate, " she added. “Recent events — including a deadly attack on a humanitarian aid convoy in Urum al-Kubra [west of Aleppo] — unfortunately demonstrate on a daily basis that the situation in Syria remains extremely unsafe and volatile at the moment, ” Abu Khaled told Al-Monitor, adding that UNHCR will be ready to provide repatriation support “when refugees can return safely. ” Rights groups and researchers, meanwhile, criticized the plans. “Lebanon has taken on a real burden in hosting more than a million Syrian refugees, but there is currently no area in Syria that would be safe for them to return to, ” said Bassam Khawaja, a Lebanon researcher at Human Rights Watch. “Any involuntary returns to Syria would constitute refoulement and would be illegal under international law. ” Nasser Yassin, research director at the Issam Fares Institute at the American University of Beirut, told Al-Monitor the plans are “unrealistic” and reflective of “populist talk … being said to gain more support among the constituency of those politicians. ” Yassin argued that while involuntary returns are illegal and so won’t receive the support of UNHCR, the situation in Syria also requires realistic policy proposals. “First, from a protection perspective, this cannot happen; second, this isn’t realistic. You’re going to put them on a bus and send them back to the borders? ” he asked. “I don’t think anyone in the international community or from human rights organizations would facilitate any of this. ” Some areas of Syria might be safer than others, "but there is a lot of competition now for resources and there’s overcrowding in these areas" caused by the mass movement of more than 6. 5 million internally displaced persons within Syria itself, he said. Official participation in incitement against refugees and migrants in Lebanon appears to be getting worse, some say, which creates a second tier of discrimination on top of scattered outbursts of violence such as those seen on the outskirts of Beirut last week. Several people were wounded after Lebanese residents and Syrian refugees exchanged gunfire in Dohat Aramoun, some 20 kilometers (12 miles) south of Beirut, on the night of Sept. 20. According to the state-run National News Agency, the Lebanese army intervened after “heavy and intense exchange of machine-gun fire. ” While world leaders came together to pledge support for refugees and migration projects at two UN summits last week, the European Union is working with the Lebanese government to assist Syrian refugees. The EU has already designated Lebanon as one of six “priority countries” for migration management and development projects. An initiative, part of the Partnership Framework endorsed in June, puts curbing migration at the top of the EU's foreign policy priorities and offers “incentives” such as trade deals and development aid for compliant partner countries. Negotiations on detailed EU-Lebanese projects planned under the Partnership Framework are said to be ongoing, although a framework communication does mention improving infrastructure and services — including waste management, water, education and health — as well as economic opportunities for the “most vulnerable Lebanese communities. ” In return, the Partnership Framework asks that the Lebanese government “make efforts on the social and economic inclusion of Syrian refugees in order to improve their living conditions and legal residence status. ” The presence of well over 1 million Syrian refugees has had an impact on Lebanon's society, economy and national politics that is not hard to divine. While debate around repatriation is likely to continue in Lebanon, last week’s plans and statements reveal more deep-seated issues with refugee policy — both in Lebanon and Europe. “The refugee issue [in Lebanon] has become now, like many other places in the world, a subject for political contention, and some politicians use it to gain more votes and show that they are protecting the benefits of their populace. Unfortunately, this is where we are, ” Yassin told Al-Monitor. However, he added, Europe “can’t just ask Lebanon to keep all those [refugees] … and just send in money. ” “Europe needs to show this part of the world, in addition to the money and support and concessions and so on … the goodwill and solid actions to resolve the war in Syria, ” he said. A Chinese court has convicted eight Tibetans over accusations they incited others to self-immolate, the official Xinhua News Agency said. The court in Aba prefecture in the southwestern province of Sichuan sentenced Lorang Konchok, 40, to death with a two-year reprieve and gave his nephew Lorang Tsering, 31, a 10-year prison sentence, for their roles in encouraging eight people to self-immolate last year, three of whom died from their burns, Xinhua said. Both were charged with murder. Suspended death sentences are usually commuted to life in prison. Calls to the court rang unanswered Thursday. The case is the first known public prosecution of self-immolations and a further sign that Beijing is responding to the increasing number of protests by criminalizing both the protesters and their friends and sympathizers. The convictions also appear aimed at shoring up Beijing's claims that such acts are instigated by outsiders with ulterior motives, rather than genuine protests. In a separate report, Xinhua said a county court in Gannan prefecture in Gansu province sentenced six ethnic Tibetans to between three and 12 years in prison for their roles in the self-immolation of a local resident in October. Despite not spending important time bashing Bibi, the movie does bother at the end to grumble that when he took office, his inaugural speech didn't mention Rabin.
But how is the movie as a movie? you ask. Apart from stating its point of view on the murder (and being released in Israel half a week before an election) it doesn't seem to have much of a message. As an exercise in recreating episodes that are only 25 years old and well remembered from the news, it works well. It blends recreations with authentic footage elegantly. The filmmakers did not employ well-known actors who would have made disbelief difficult to suspend, but the actors handle their parts well. The music is spare and appropriately ominous. But if the movie breaks forth from its narrow focus to imply any larger statement about the human condition, I missed it.

"Come to Daddy" turned out to be so much different from what I imagined - and props for that. This is one of those movies that rejects genre classification, for Ant Timpson and Toby Harvard have compiled a variety of elements, emotions and oddities and have done it organically, no less. Furthermore, Elijah Wood & Stephen McHattie tops off this eccentric cocktail with sparkling performances.
A man in his mid-thirties, an urbanite (Elijah Wood) receives a letter of invitation from his father whom he hasn't seen in 30 years & so he journeys to his father's remote cabin by the sea. I had seen the trailer before, read an article or two, but little did I know what I thought will go on for 90 minutes went on only for about 30. The story twists and turns multiple times (from which there are 2 'major' turns) while also keeping a coherent and all-weaved-through emotional ground, consistency. My only complaint is the underwhelming revelation of the fact that Stephen McHattie is not there for the long run. I like the guy a lot. But, naturally, it didn't take away anything for "Come to Daddy" has what it takes to engage and entertain all throughout. Amusing characters, witty dialogue, pitch-black humor, pumped-up and gnarly action, certain and stable moral core. First half an hour, the son meeting the father, plays like a Tarantino movie, just throw in the kind of suspense and creepiness only the horror genre can provide. Next up is a man in a storm of confusion, demons and machinations & in the end we count the fates and enjoy the action. As for the audiovisual/aesthetical qualities, Come to Daddy" is shot and edited together tastefully, the technical side holds up to the rest of the goodies.
Keeping in my mind that this is Ant Timpson's directional debut, I'm excited to see what else is there to come. More than a solid start. "Come to Daddy" is a top-tier, highly creative, excellently performed indie flick, a dark comedy with the undertones of several other genres. My rating: 8/10.

He risked his life for his FAITH. This movie is bout a man who was a Catholic and died he chose to follow Christ. It is really interesting how all the intellectual reviewers gloss over that. The story of a conscientious objector and outsider in greater Germany during World War II is very similar to 2013's "13 Minutes" which is told in a much tighter, traditional pace. I usually don't even know the director's name when I watch a film, but while watching this one, I couldn't help but notice similarities to the near-great but disappointing "The New World" from 2005. Lo and behold, both were directed by Malick, and both suffer from way too many long pauses in the dialogue. To pan around the countryside to show how idyllic a farm community is might work three or four times, but it happens maybe 25 times. Malick should have cut an hour and added connecting dialogue throughout.

I love just about every part of this movie. Acting amazing cinematography, breathtaking. It is a gripping examination of sacrifice and faith. My favorite line "there are just admirers and not followers." resonated with me so much so. The themes of family and love, even in the midst of the struggles of life.
My one complaint that may change is the length. Though I can watch long movies I found the middle section of the movie to be over repetitive with similar scenes. Some say that this isn't a problem because it is meant to convey the impatience and the trail. I will keep that in mind in my next viewing and see if that comment is valid and makes sense. Other than that this movie was perfect. From the score to the setting, it becomes the most beautiful movie I've seen all year.

But director Todd Haynes still makes it entirely engaging and painfully true that death is a number compared to liability and that is how you can sustain cold hearted industry. Made more gut wrenching is how they believed the ends justified the means.
Mark Ruffalo tackles the lawyer with the conscience wonderfully. Suffering under the weight of what he must do and what then envelops his small world. It's heroic in how much he does sacrifice and let's face it, these stories don't end well. What director Haynes does is put a face to the not-on-the-books crime. And though, it only is a civil case somehow you sense the frustration of the town. Not played as rubes but believing that a massive corporation who funded and gave perks to sustain the village wouldn't willingly destroy it. Majoritatea fotografiilor sunt create cu ajutorul aparatelor de fotografiat, care folosesc o lentila pentru a concentra lumina vizibila a scenei intr-o reproducere a ceea ce ar vedea ochiul uman. Istoria fotografiei Prima fotografie permanenta a fost developata in anul 1790, de catre Thomas Wedgewood. Din pacate, imaginile erau sterse, iar Wedgewood s-a stins din viata inainte sa poata inainta cu experimentele. Abia in anul 1822 s-a realizat o fotografie clara de catre inventatorul francez Joseph Nicephore Niepce, pe baza unei descoperiri a lui Johann Heinrich Schultz care presupune ca o combinatie de argint si creta se intuneca la expunerea la lumina. Niepce si Louis Daguerre au rafinat acest proces, cel din urma descoperind ca expunand argintul in prima faza vaporilor de iodina, dupa care expus la lumina si in cele din urma la vapori de mercur dupa ce a facut fotografia, se putea forma o imagine latenta, iar lasarea placii in baie de sare fixa imaginea. Aceste idei au dus la realizarea faimosului dagherotip. Dagherotipul avea defectele sale, cele mai evidentiate fiind fragilitatea fotografiei realizate si fiind un proces doar pozitiv, nu putea fi refacut. Inventatorii au inceput sa caute imediat solutii pentru a imbunatati procesele pentru a le face mai practice. Mai multe procese au fost introduse si au fost folosite pentru o scurta perioada de timp dupa prima imagine a lui Niepce si introducerea procesului colodiu in anul 1848. Negativele din placi de sticla umeda pe baza de colodiu cu imprimari realizate pe hartie cu albumina a ramas metoda fotografica preferata pentru o perioada, chiar si dupa introducerea procesului de gelatina din 1871, care era si mai practic. Adaptarile procesului de gelatina au ramas procesele fotografice alb-negru primare pana in zilele noastre. Nevoile industriei cinematografiei au introdus, de asemenea, o varietate de sisteme cu scopuri speciale, poate unul dintre cele mai cunoscute fiind Tehnicolor, acum devenit un sistem foarte rar.
